in kuala lumpur, malaysia. will, any reason for the addition of the third ship? >> reporter: hey, guys. no reason has been given to why there are three ships in the bay of bengal. keep in mind, these were ships not involved in the search off western australia. this is the bangladeshi military to send ships in the area. one ship has the side-scan sonar technology to scan the floor to see if it can find the trace of debris. that's important. the water in this area is not as deep as it is off western australia. these ships, according to the officials here in malaysia, should have the tools capable to scan the surface and see if there is debris floating. unlikely considering we're in week nine here. also, there is the side-scan sonar to put to work as well. the tone that we're hearing here in kuala lumpur is that for now, they will wait and see what the ships in bangladesh find before making a decision to divert additional resources which would be expensive and take away time from the primary search area off western australia. >> i have to think this is a topic of conversation on monday wi

're getting new details in the search for malaysia flight 370 where the bluefin underwater search device has just wrapped up its 18th mission without finding any, any debris. we're learning this isn't the end of its deployment, though. anna is joining us from perth, australia. what can you tell us, anna? >> reporter: wolf, far from the end of this search, if anything, it's just gearing up. as you say, the 18th mission has completed with no sign of debris from mh-370. now, we know that the "ocean shield" will be coming back to port here in perth in the next few days to restock and refuel before heading back out. we know that the search is heading into a new phase, which will cover an area of some 20,000 square miles north to where they have been searching. we believe that this will take, according to authorities, between eight months to a year to cover this entire area. but as far as authorities are concerned, they are meeting in kambra and we'll be there to tell you what happens. >> anna coren in perth for us. let's bring in miles o'brien and cnn's richard quest. what do you make of the meet

and stunning mistakes revealed in the most comprehensive look yet at the disappearance of malaysia airlines flight 370. the country's transportation ministry released a preliminary report on the case that's been gripping people around the world for almost eight weeks. it contains the most information we've seen so far about what happened the night the plane vanished. our expert analysts are combing through the report. they're standing by, along with cnn's tom foreman. first, let's go to kuala lumpur, our senior international correspondent nic robertson has the latest. what does the report reveal? >> reporter: wolf, the most stunning revelation appears to be in the actions taken when the plane went missing between 1:38 a.m. and 6:14 a.m. for two hours, malaysian airlines operation center is misreading its own computer, telling air traffic control the flight was in fact over cambodia, they were tracking it and in communications with it. that turned out to be an error, lasting over two hours. there is a full recording of the air traffic control to cockpit voice recording. that's the first time
